The test mule of the new Opel Astra Convertible was caught by spy photographers. The mule caught on camera is an early prototype as the front doors are carried over from the hatchback model complete with their frames. The production version will have frameless windows and seating for four passengers.

The most important change over the older Astra TwinTop is the replacement of the retractable metal roof with a traditional fabric hood, which will look much better than the temporary solution seen on this prototype.

The new Opel’s model will make its world premiere should take place at the Paris Motor Show this fall. The new Opel Astra Convertible and its sister model from Vauxhall, will be built alongside other Astra models at GM’s Gliwice plant in Poland.

Good news for Astra fans. The spies have filmed the new Opel (Vauxhall) Astra Convertible on test in Germany.

The 2013 Opel Astra Convertible is planned to go on sale by early 2013. The most important change over the previous Astra TwinTop is the replacement of the more complicated, heavier and costly retractable metal roof with a traditional fabric hood.

The test models are heavily based on the freshly revealed Opel Astra GTC sport hatchback featuring a longer rear end to improve the car’s looks and increase the available space for the rear passengers and the luggage compartment. Inside, the Astra Convertible will have room for four passengers with individual seats.

Opel will most likely tease the Astra Convertible with a near production concept model either in Frankfurt this fall or in Geneva next spring.

The test mule of the next generation Zafira minivan was caught in testing on public roads. The new seven-seat minivan is expected to grow in dimensions offering improved passenger and luggage space. Unlike the latest Meriva that boasts a pair of suicide doors, the new Zafira will continue to use conventional rear doors.

The pictures suggest that the minivan takes styling cues from both the Insignia and new Astra, including the wing-shaped head lamps.

The interior design will also be more or less inspired by the Astra, while the car’s flexibility is reported to have been improved by a revamped three-row flexible seating system providing independent seating for all seven passengers.

The new Zafira will use hardware from the Astra range, so expect a suite of turbocharged diesel and petrol engines, including more eco-friendly and frugal EcoFlex versions and possibly even a sporty OPC / VRX variant.

The 2012 Opel Zafira will make its world premiere at a major international motor show this year with European sales to start in late 2011 or early 2012.

The styling of this disguised test car has been hidden well, however, it’s obvious that the new Zafira MPV takes its styling cues from the Astra and Insignia incorporating features such as the creased swoop behind the front wheels and the wing-shaped head lamps.

Inside, expect to find a similar dashboard styling with the Astra and enough space for seven passengers with three rows of seats and Opel’s Flexspace seating system.

Since the next Zafira is based on the new Astra, powertrain options will be similar, meaning the range will include 1.4-liter and 1.6-liter turbocharged petrols as well as 1.7-liter and 2.0-liter diesels. Opel’s next generation people mover is expected to be launched in Europe sometime next year.

The Astra OPC could get 27 % more power courtesy of a 296 bhp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It is having large Brembo brakes which can be seen through the wheels, as well as cross-drilled discs. It looks like having dark tinted lenses over the headlamps.

The spies say Volker Strycek was behind the wheel of the test vehicle. Strycek, 52, a former DTM race series champion, currently leading the Opel Performance Center (get it, OPC) for several years.

A closer look reveals that aside from the jacked-up ride height, the prototype also features wider track. Expect to see the Meriva being offered in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive forms. As for the engine range, the ’soft-roader’ will be offered with the same variety of diesel and gasoline units as the standard Meriva including a 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol unit with outputs ranging from 120 hp to 140 HP.

The new Opel Meriva will most likely feature a beefed-up look with raised height and the traditional ‘off-road’ styling cues like muscular wheelarches, heavy body cladding, larger roof rails and unique bumpers that will help to differentiate it from the standard car.

The latest 4×4 four-wheel-drive Corsa was caught on way to dealership. The Corsa 4×4 a Opel’s supermini SUV which is set to follow in the wheeltracks of the Antara when it goes on sale early in 2010.

These are expected to give greater off-road ability without ruining the standard car’s nimble, secure manners on the tarmac. The production version of the vehicle will also get tough looks, including rugged bumpers and body armour. There will also be under-body protection, along with a unique alloy wheel design.

The newcomer will sit at the top of the firm’s supermini range, next to the replacement Meriva, which was unveiled as a concept at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Despite the new Corsa’s SUV tag, bosses are keen to ensure that it is viewed as a frugal, low-emission car, rather than a gas-guzzling 4×4. As a result, it will bring together the firm’s most efficient powertrains, including a new diesel and a range of low-capacity, high-economy petrol turbos. In addition, the firm’s excellent 1.3 and 1.7-litre CDTI oil-burners will be tuned for low-down torque and refinement.

GM would like to sell 120,000 units annually.
