See above at the new estate version of the new Opel / Vauxhall Astra which has been spotted in testing at the Nurburgring.

The new Opel Astra Sports Tourer will be shown this summer with a Paris Motor Show debut to follow in autumn 2010. The Astra Sports Tourer looks like a smaller version of the Opel Insignia station wagon boasting a more raked roofline and a less boxy / conservative shape than the current model.

Engine options for the Astra’s station wagon model will mirror those offered on the five door Astra, so expect a petrol range stretching from a 1.4-liter naturally aspirated four-pot up to a 180 horsepower 1.6-liter turbo, and a comprehensive diesel lineup topping out with a 160HP 2.0-liter CDTi.

The Opel Astra Sports Tourer will be the second model to be added to the new Astra’s range. It will be followed by a sportier-looking three-door hatchback, a coupe convertible and a four-sedan model that will also be sold in the States as a Buick.

Opel has unveiled the first interior photos of the all-new Astra, which will make its premier at upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The sixth generation Astra will arrive to European showrooms by late this year.

Just as expected, the 2010 Astra’s interior is a fresh interpretation of the Insignia’s design. Highlights include the recurring wing and blade motifs, the wraparound instrument panel with deep set gauges and the ambient lighting that provides illumination from above the centre console and within the door handle recesses.

The company says that the interior also stands out due to the high quality of the materials which can be seen in areas like the grained, soft-touch surfaces, the textured panels, the chrome trim elements, and the feel of operating buttons and switches.

“Our goal was to make the perceptual quality in the interior of the next generation Astra as great as that of the Opel/Vauxhall Insignia,” says Peter Hasselbach, in charge of Design Appearance Quality. “This is in line with Opel/Vauxhall’s mission to bring innovations and quality to the compact class.”

“It was important for the team not only to find places for the items to fit, but for the new Astra’s interior to still look great, and maintain high quality standards throughout the cabin,” says Max Kuncl, Performance Integration Manager.

Look at the official Opel’s photos of the all-new Astra, new subcompact hatch. 2010 Opel Astra will make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The sixth generation Opel Astra hatch is based on GM’s new Delta platform that also underpins the Chevy Volt and Cruze models and it comes with a new line of engines including 1.4-liter and 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol units.

The new Opel Astra features a new design, it will be a head turner. It’s clean looks combine a sleek and sporty shape with the latest Opel styling cues such as the characteristic scalloped side blades and the Insignia-inspired headlights.

European customers will be able to select from a line of gasoline and diesel engines. Aside from an entry-level 1.4-naturally aspirated engine and the Insignia-derived 1.6-liter Turbo with 180HP, the Astra’s petrol range will also include GM’s new 1.4-liter turbocharged unit. It will be offered with outputs ranging from 120 hp to 140 hp and torque values of 175 to 200 Nm. General Motors says that the 1.4 Turbo engine will deliver fuel savings of up to 8 percent compared to the naturally aspirated 1.6 and 1.8-liter engines that it will replace.

The diesel range comprises of 1.3-liter, 1.7-liter and 2.0-liter turbocharged units while Opel also plans to introduce an ecoFLEX version with low CO2 emissions and improved fuel economy sometime in 2010.

The five-door Opel Astra will go on sale in Europe this fall. It will be joined by a sporty three door fastback variant called GTC Coupe and the more practical station-wagon in late 2010 – early 2011 followed by a four-door sedan model and a coupe-cabriolet with a retractable hardtop.

The new Astra’s exterior will look like small Insignia with details such as the shape of the headlamps, the roofline and the concave surfacing on the doors all pointing towards the larger Opel.
The Astra’s interior is heavily inspired from the Insignia with the dashboard featuring four deeply positioned instrument dials in front of the driver and a swoopy central console with an elevated lower part.

The 2010 Opel Astra will be available with diesel and gasoline units including GM’s an all-new 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine that will be offered with outputs ranging from 120 hp to 140 hp.

The 2010 Opel Astra will arrive to Opel’s showrooms across Europe by the end of the year, while the GTC coupe and the Estate variants should follow by mid-2010.

The new Opel Astra based on GM’s new Delta platform and will make its debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show this September.

The 2010 Opel Astra will also benefit from GM’s new 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine offered with outputs ranging from 120 hp to 140 hp and torque values of 175 to 200 Nm. Opel claims that this unit will deliver an approximate 8% improvement in fuel consumption compared to the naturally aspirated 1.6 and 1.8-liter engines that it will replace. We all waiting for Frankfurt.
